The Creta SUV, which was launched by Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) in July last year, is all set to drive past another milestone. Hyundai Creta's domestic sales will touch 80,000 units soon, reports NDTV Auto.

The SUV had taken the segment by storm in terms of bookings and sales when it was launched. Hyundai had sold a total of 78,857 units until May 2016 in the domestic market. In March, the company announced it had received over 1 lakh bookings for the SUV. The monthly sales of the Creta are also in top gear. Hyundai India sold 7,057 units of Creta in May and 7,900 units in April.

Prompted by the high volume of sales, Hyundai increased the production of the Creta by 20 percent to 12,000 units per month in April. The company also added a petrol automatic version of the Creta on popular demand, which was priced at Rs. 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in April.

The Creta is offered in both petrol and diesel-engine options in the country. The 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine churns out 121bhp and 151Nm of torque, while the 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine develops 126bhp and 259Nm of torque. Both the engines are available with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The less powered 1.4-litre CRDi diesel unit churns out 89bhp and 220Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission only.

Hyundai Creta's current prices start at Rs. 9.15 lakh and go up to Rs. 14.50 lakh for the top-end diesel variant, ex-showroom, Delhi.
