Huawei P9 tipped to be released in India next month

Chinese consumer electronics giant Huawei is planning to launch the company's flagship smartphone P9 series in India in August.

The company has sent out invites to media houses for an event scheduled on Aug. 17. Though there is no mention of the programme details, it is being widely reported that the Huawei P9 will make its official debut in the country.

In June, Allen Wang, President, Huawei Consumer Business Group (India) had said to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of Honor 5C in India that Huawei P9 would be released in India soon. The specific time frame was, however, not disclosed then. Now, its looks like the flagship camera phone might finally enter the Indian market next month.

Huawei P9 was originally unveiled in April. The highlight of the device is its camera. It boasts dual-12MP primary camera co-engineered by the world renowned German optics firm, Leica Camera AG, which is known for its top-notch rangefinder cameras. It comes with f/2.2 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, laser autofocus, BSI CMOS sensor and an 8MP snapper with f/2.4 aperture on the front.

The additional camera sensor, besides the main camera module of the device, will be used to capture detailed depth information of the scene, enabling users to re-focus objects on the photos through a photo application. The dual-camera design also guarantees more light absorption, resulting in crisp and detailed image capture.

Other stipulated features of Huawei P9 include 5.2-inch full HD display, fingerprint sensor on the back (below the primary camera module) Android Marshmallow OS, 3GB/64GB inbuilt memory and a 3000mAh battery.
