Along with its "exclusive for India" ultra-budget smartphone Honor Bee, Huawei launched another budget smartphone Honor 4C in India. Available for ₹8,999, Honor 4C will compete with Lenovo A7000 and Yu Yureka. Both the smartphones are available at the same price through online retailers Flipkart and Amazon respectively.
The Honor 4C is now available through Flipkart at ₹8,999. For the price, the phone looks elegant and capable of throwing a challenge to Lenovo A7000, Yu Yureka to some extent.
Looks and Build Quality
The Honor 4C looks quite identical to the latest Honor 4X, with textured back cover featuring the camera lens and LED flash on the top right, and the engraved Honor logo in the middle. The speaker mesh has been housed at the bottom left of the back. The volume rocker and power button sit on the right side, and the 2 SIM and Micro SD card slot have been hidden under the back cover.
In the white variant, Huawei has featured a gold-colour rim over the bezel, which may appeal to certain buyers. The Honor 4C measures at 143.3x71.9x8.8mm and weighs just 162g.
The Honor 4C boasts of a 5-inch IPS HD display with a resolution count of 1280x720 pixels resolution at 294ppi pixel density. In comparison, the A7000 and Yu Yureka house a bigger, 5.5-inch display with similar resolution but less pixel density count (267ppi). But remember, the PPI count is measured by dividing the diagonal resolution in pixels by diagonal size in inches. So the PPI count is less because of the bigger display size featured in A7000 and Yu Yureka.
In our limited period test, the Honor 4C offered decent viewing angle and sunlight legibility.
The Honor 4C runs on a 64-bit 1.2GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 620 processor with 2GB of RAM and 8GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB. Yu Yureka and A7000 also feature similar RAM but, Yu Yureka offers double the internal storage than both the smartphones.
During our limited test, we found the Honor 4C is fast enough with most of the installed apps and didn't experience any visible lag.
OS and Interface
Unlike A7000 and Yu Yureka, the Honor 4C runs on the dated Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system overlaid with homemade Emoticon UI 3.0. Lenovo A7000 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, while YU Yureka has received the Lollipop based CM12 update.
The Honor 4C packs a 13MP rear camera with smart image 2.5 technology equipped with an LED flash and a 5MP camera for the front. The stock camera interface is the same as the Honor 6 Plus and Honor 4X. We found the rear camera is fast to focus on subject and offers good detail in result images. But for actual result, please hold your patience, till we review the smartphone.
Powered by a 2,550 mAh battery, the Honor 4C Indian variant offers the essential Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, Wi-Fi but skips the 4G connectivity, which is a kind of a letdown for its price.
