Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has come up with a less expensive smartphone, Desire U, to expand its flagship Desire smartphone series.

The smartphone is reportedly priced around TWD (New Taiwan Dollar) 7990, approximately costing close to ₹14, 700.

HTC Desire U runs on Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) mobile OS and is powered by a single core processor.

The device is expected to hit stores initially in China and Taiwan, and later in other Asian markets. HTC has not revealed the smartphone's price and the date of availability in India.

According to various reports, HTC might show off its latest smartphone at the upcoming international mobile convention MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2013 due in February.

Earlier this week, speculations were rife that HTC might host an event to unveil its second flagship smartphone, M7, in London on Feb 19.
