Taiwanese smartphone maker, HTC has officially unveiled the second generation Butterfly handset for the Asian market.

"HTC Butterfly 2 follows HTC's iconic design and globally acclaimed user experience," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

"Its elegant appearance and fantastic performance will certainly provide consumers with the best experience ever."

The new HTC Butterfly 2 is very similar to the recently launched 'New Butterfly J' (HTL23, Japan model) sans some minor changes in the internal hardware. It boasts of superfast 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 series quad-core processor and is backed by 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 128GB).

One striking feature of the HTC Butterfly 2 is that it houses a state of the art – 'Duo Camera' on the rear side- a 13.0-megapixel camera with a depth sensor similar to the one in the flagship smartphone HTC One M8, sans the ultra-pixel technology.

Other stipulated specifications include- 5.0-inch full HD (1920x1080p) display, dust-resistant (IP5X)/water-repellant (IPX5/IPX7) certifications, 5.0-megapixel snapper with CMOS sensor on the front, 2,700 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which can power the smartphone for up to 23.9 hours of 3G talk time and close to 693 hours under standby mode.

The company has confirmed that HTC Butterfly 2 will hit stores initially on 2 September in the home market, Taiwan and later in Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. However, the details regarding specific time line of release date and price of the device for different regions is still under wraps.
