Audiences hoping to watch one of the hottest on-screen couples of Bollywood - Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor - reunite on screen for Karan Johar's upcoming film "Shuddhi" may be in for a disappointment, as latest reports suggest that the actress has been replaced by Anushka Sharma for the female lead.

Ever since Karan announced that Hrithik would take up the male lead in his next project, rumours were afloat that the film's makers had approached Kareena to play the female lead. It was also said that the actress had accepted the offer.

Now, the latest buzz is that Kareena's tight schedules have forced her to opt out from the project, only to be replaced by Anushka.

Anushka was not the only actress considered for the role. Reports said her peers Deepika Padukone and Prikyanka Chopra were also approached to play Hrihtik's love interest in the film.

If the latest reports are to be believed then "Shuddhi" will be Anushka's maiden venture with Dharma Production. This will also be the first time the vivacious young actress and Bollywood's fittest actor would be paired on screen.

"Shuddhi" will be directed by "Agneepath" director Karan Malhotra and is expected to hit the screens during Diwali in 2014.

Confirming the reports of the release date, Karan had earlier tweeted, "Team Agneepath is back...@KaranMalhotra21 will direct his next with @iHrithik in a 2014 diwali release titled SHUDDHI(purification)."

Earlier, it was said that "Shuddhi" was based on Amish Tripathy's book "The Immortals Of Meluha" in which Hrihtik would play the protagonist Shiva.

However, Karan Johar brushed off the rumours and said, "Shuddhi is not connected to The Immortals Of Meluha at all. It will be a completely different film. Meluha has nothing to do with it. We start shooting in November this year," reported Hindustan Times.
