The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday asked the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to provide details of its foreign funding following suspicion that the party might have violated the provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

An official from the Home Ministry was quoted by the Press Trust of India (PTI) as saying that the communication to the AAP was part of its "routine" queries which have been sent to a few other political parties in connection with the funds received by them from abroad.

The official, however, clarified that it was not a show cause notice and that a decision on it would be taken only after the AAP submits its reply to the Home Ministry.

Former members of the party have alleged that AAP accepts donations from unreliable companies that have no credible source of income or valid address.

Names of AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and former members Prashant Bhushan and Shanti Bhushan were added to the petition that seeks a criminal case for allegedly violating foreign exchange laws.
