The Pathankot district of Punjab was put on high alert after a suspicious bag carrying army fatigues was found stuffed in a gunny bag near the Mamun military station on Sunday night.

A search operation by the Indian Army and the SWAT team of the Pathankot Police is currently underway. An investigation into the matter is also being carried out.

Three army uniforms with 'Jammu' written on them were recovered from the bag during the search operation.

"Three Army uniforms have been recovered from the bag during the search operation. The uniforms have 'Jammu' written on it," a police official was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

A high alert was sounded in Pathankot earlier this month as well after two suspicious bags were found a few yards from the military base. Mobile tower batteries were recovered from those bags during a search operation by the police.

In January 2016, a terror attack at the Pakthankot air base had claimed the lives of seven Indian Army soldiers and injured over 37 people.
