Uttarkashi, June 19 (ANI): With local memory still reeling from the destructive impact of the flash floods that ravaged the entire region exactly a year ago, heavy rainfall send Uttarkashi on high alert with nervous trepidation of further loss to life and property. Heavy rainfall has swollen the river Bhagirathi to alarming levels in the northern Indian district of Uttarkashi. According to District Magistrate, Shridhar Babu, the river is still two metres below the danger zone so there was no need to panic. However, the people of Uttarkashi, for whom last year's wounds are still fresh in the mind, seemed sceptical.
