The theme for Season 6 of Facebook/American Horror Story

There is a lot of mystery surrounding the upcoming season of "American Horror Story." The brains behind the show are keeping the theme of Season 6 under wraps, and this has led to the internet being flooded with various speculator pieces on what the upcoming season would be about.

But movie ratings website Rotten Tomatoes seems to have accidentally dropped the theme as it has listed the forthcoming season as "American Horror Story: The Mist." It's still pretty vague, but it's at least something to hang on to before the new season airs.

There is no official confirmation on whether the new season is called "The Mist," but based on a Reddit forum, it's highly unlikely considering the previous titles all follow a set pattern.

"There's a reason each previous season has been named after a place (Murder House, Asylum, Hotel), a group of people (Coven) or an arguable mixture of the two (Freakshow).....it's because places and large groups of people are able to provide several different storylines for 10-13 episodes," noted Pieslice. "It's not the creators just pulling a random word out of their ass. The Mist is a good creepy theme for a movie, but how could there possibly be 12 episodes about a Mist? Even if the mist affected a town Village-of-the-damned style, it still would get boring after a few episodes."

More than six trailers for the upcoming season have been released so far, and fans are no closer to finding anything about Season 6 than they were before the clips started surfacing. According to FX CEO John Landgraf, the clips are intentionally vague so as to throw fans off from guessing the theme.

"I think they're really fun and funny and beautifully, artfully made… and a lot of them are accurate. The others are all misdirects," he told reporters at the Television Critic's Association semi-annual press tour early this month.

"American Horror Story" Season 6 will premiere on Sept. 14 on FX.
