Shimla, Sep 10 (ANI): Heavy rains and storm for the last three days damaged apple crop worth rupees100 crore in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains lashed several areas of the state in the last few days and as per preliminary assessment, farmers have lost nearly 80 percent crops in Shimla district. Farmers expected assistance and relief from the government, as main roads and transport links have also been damaged due to the rains. India’s top apple growing state of Himachal Pradesh is likely to produce 500-540 million kilograms of the fruit this year as compared to 700 million kilograms last year. Apple crop occupies over 50% fruit growing area of the state. The apple business is considered as the lifeline for apple growers in many districts.
