'Teej' is the festival of monsoon and this year, Hariyali Teej is being observed on 17 August. The three-day celebration welcomes the monsoon season and is mostly celebrated by women.

On this auspicious occasion, girls and women worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. They sing, dance and perform other prayer rituals.

It is mainly celebrated in the northern states of India where the women dress up in red, green or yellow ethnic clothes and apply henna on their hands and feet.

Women worship Goddess Parvati to seek her blessing for a happy married life and for the wellness of their family.

It is believed that it is the day when Lord Shiva accepted Goddess Parvati as his wife.

'Teej' is mostly celebrated in Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. While it is an official public holiday in Haryana, most of the well known festivities of Teej take place in Jaipur (Rajasthan's capital).

The limelight of this festival is the swing, which is fastened to big tree branches and as a tradition, women swing on it for a while.

Let's take a look at 'Happy Teej' wishes and messages in the above slideshow.
