Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi

Many believe that making comedy films is one of the toughest things to do, and when it is a sequel of a successful movie, the pressure is even more. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (sequel of Happy Bhag Jayegi) has a few good moments, but the overall movie fails to be amusing enough.

STORYLINE

Harpreet Kaur aka Happy (Sonakshi Sinha) lands in China to join a job at a university. On the other side, another Harpreet Kaur aka Happy (Diana Penty) also reaches the same country with her singer husband Guddu (Ali Fazal) as the latter is supposed to perform at an event there.

In order to settle down a score, some goons in China kidnap Sonakshi, mistakenly thinking her to be the other Happy. She tries to convince them that they made a mistake, but all in vain. Meanwhile, Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Sheirgill) and Usman Gill (Piyush Mishra) also get abducted by the same group as they have a connection with Diana's character.

She manages to flee from the captivity and ends up meeting an annoying but helpful Punjabi guy Khushwant Singh Gill (Jassi Gill). He decides to help the lady in distress.

The confusion leads to even bigger confusions and troubles for Sonakshi's character as she struggles to escape the goons. She also has a special reason to visit China, which eventually gets revealed. Ultimately all the characters connected to the duo Happy come together in an attempt to escape.

As the title of the film suggests, there are a lot of chase sequences, and the madness continues all through the film.

PERFORMANCES

Sonakshi plays the central role in the film. She portrays the character of a carefree but highly emotional girl. She does not have too many funny lines in the movie but does her part well.

Jassi, who made his Bollywood debut with Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, is good. He adds some LOL moments to the film while exhibiting some of his weird characteristics. One of his most funny dialogues is "Isko bola tha koel ki awaz nikalne ko, par isne aise aise awaz nikali laga 100 gadhe ek saath suhag raat mana rahe ho".

Jimmy is as usual good to watch. He has mastered the art of playing a desi munda, who always follows his heart, and is desperate to get married. His and Piyush Mishra's chemistry is by far the most enjoyable. Their constant banters add the much-needed humour to the film.

Diana and Ali have an extended cameo in the film, and hence their screen presence is very limited. Dangal fame Aparshakti Khurana also has an interesting role in the movie. Jason Tham as one of the main goons named Chang also plays his part well.

POSITIVES

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi has a couple of humorous punch lines that make you giggle at times. Performance-wise there are not many flaws. In the midst of madness and comedy, the film also includes a certain dose of emotion in between. The film has been well connected with the first part.

NEGATIVES

The movie gets too complicated at times. The director should have tried to simplify the storyline a bit. Although comedy films are anyway not expected to have much logical flow, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi lacks in this aspect way too much. The overall film fails to deliver enough funny moments.

VERDICT

Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi is an average film. With very limited moments of laughter, it is definitely not the best of comedy movies that Bollywood is capable of making. It is a fun movie to watch with family.
