While the world is busy planning how to celebrate Friendship Day, which falls on Sunday, 2 August, many might have missed another equally interesting day -- National Girlfriends Day.

Is it a day for girls to be with their boyfriends? Or should we call it girls' day out?

National Girlfriends Day is meant to be a day for girls to be with their girlfriends, to thank them for their presence in your life.

Even though its origin is unknown, National Girlfriends Day is celebrated on 1 August. The micro-blogging Twitter has been flooded with messages with the hashtag #NationalGirlfriendsDay.

Check out some messages to share with your girlfriends below:

Don't have words to describe about you,
Because you are perfect in every way,
Having you besides me,
Just makes my day,
I love you!

Thank you for listening to my long stories as though you haven't already heard them a million times.

Even today, I feel the same,
The day I first met you,
You are the one I think of,
You are truly one in few,
But, let me tell something to you,
It's simple, not new,
I so love you!

Hey baby doll, you mean the world to me. Your presence makes me feel alive. Thank you for being with me.

Thank you for being brave enough to let me in and be vulnerable to me.

Sacrifice is greater than love,
Character is greater than beauty;
Humanity is greater than wealth,
But nothing is greater than our friendship

Thank you for forgiving me for every time I haven't been the best friend in the entire world.

Days are too busy,
Hours are too fast,
Seconds are too few,
But there's always time for me to remember a nice person like u
