Baisakhi is a Hindu festival that marks the harvest of rabi crops. It is celebrated mostly in the northern part of the country. Punjabi New Year is also observed on the same day and this year, the festival will be celebrated April 13.

Apart from Punjab, the people of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana also observe the harvest festival with a lot of fervour. 

During this festival, which is also known as Vaisakhi, Vaishakhi, Vasakhi, devotees show gratitude to God for granting them good harvest. It is the day on which Guru Gobind Singh (the tenth Sikh guru) established the Khalsa Panth.

Other regions in India will celebrate this day April 14 as Pohela Boishakh in Kolkata, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Bohag Bihu in Assam and Vishu in Kerala. Meanwhile, several celebs have wished "Happy Baisakhi" on social media.
