The season 12 premiere episode of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" appears to be titled "Sledgehammer", and according to reports, the episode will focus on the relationships of the doctors working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Details of what's in store for the doctors in season 12 have been scarce, and the title was revealed after a photo featuring the call sheet for the first episode was leaked online. Sadly, the call sheet did not reveal any other vital information.
In the meantime, there have been rumours that actress Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey on the medical drama, could be leaving the show after season 12. Neither the actress nor showrunner Shonda Rhimes has commented on this rumour, but several reports note that Pompeo does not want to extend her contract beyond season 12, and this may prompt Rhimes to kill off her character Meredith.
But before that happens, Meredith is expected to get yet another chance at love, as Martin Henderson is all set to enter the show as a new doctor who could potentially be Meredith's new love interest.
Henderson could be the new male lead now that Patrick Dempsey's Derek is no longer part of the drama. Season 11 saw Derek dying in a car accident, leaving Meredith with three young children. It is believed that Henderson's character will fill the void in Meredith's life and help her manage her professional and personal life.
As for the other storylines that will be explored in the upcoming season, fans will finally see if April will give up on her marriage for an exciting career as an Army doctor.
Also, Jo and Alex are set to move out of Meredith's old home and start living their own life. Elaborating on her hopes for Jo, actress Camilla Luddington told The Hollywood Reporter in an earlier interview that she would love to see Jo and Alex get engaged in season 12.
"[As for] next season, toward end of the season, I'd love for Alex and Jo to be engaged. They've jumped over a lot of hurdles in their relationship. I was waiting to break them up! I feel like if they're going to continue in this direction, that would be nice if they got married and at some point down the line even had kids," she said.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will be premiered on 24 September.
