All eyes are on Govinda and Sunita Ahuja's marital discord. The couple have been grabbing headlines amid reports of trouble in their marriage. Sunita had reportedly filed for divorce a few months ago. However, on Wednesday, Sunita headed to a family court in Mumbai with her son Yashvardhan, and reports suggested she might file for divorce and that the couple's divorce was imminent. However, Govinda's manager, Shashi Sinha, later confirmed that Sunita Ahuja has withdrawn the divorce petition she had filed against the actor.
Amid the ongoing attention around Govinda and Sunita Ahuja's marriage, an old interview featuring the couple has resurfaced online. In the clip, Govinda recalled a stern warning from his late mother about his relationship with Sunita, saying she had cautioned him never to betray or leave his wife.
The old interview has resurfaced after Sunita recently withdrew her divorce petition against the actor. Govinda and Sunita, who have been married for nearly four decades, have faced intense speculation about their relationship in recent months.
Govinda recalled his mother's warning
In the old interview, Govinda spoke about the advice his mother had given him regarding Sunita. Recalling her words, he said, "She told me that if you betray her or leave her, you will end up begging for a living." The remark left Sunita, who was sitting beside him, in splits.
Govinda also described Sunita as an important part of their family and credited her with bringing prosperity into his life. He said, "My mom used to call her the Laxmi (goddess of wealth and prosperity) of our house, and it is true as well because since the day she entered my house and my life, we have never looked back."
Sunita's divorce case and recent court visit
Sunita and Govinda's marriage has been under public scrutiny following reports that she had filed for divorce in December 2024. According to a Hindustan Times report, the petition was filed under the Hindu Marriage Act and cited allegations including adultery, cruelty and desertion.
However, Govinda's manager Shashi Sinha recently confirmed that Sunita had withdrawn the divorce case. He also said that the couple were now doing well.
He said, "I am saying that if this was always going to happen today, then why was the matter allowed to go this far, only for the case to be withdrawn now? It is certainly a happy development, but what saddens me is that for the past one-and-a-half to two years, there has been so much drama in the media. The situation should never have reached this stage."
He further added, "We don't simply take our personal matters out onto the streets or into the marketplace. The damage to the family's reputation could have been avoided. Fights happen between many couples and they continue to deal with them privately. But once you go to court, the whole world comes to know. And the world did come to know."
The couple's relationship has also attracted attention following Govinda's recent appearance with his Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar.
Reacting to the two being seen together, Sunita said, "There should at least be a picture made. Promotion happens after a picture is made. What can I say? He is roaming around with a girl who is his daughter's age. He should be a little ashamed. And there should be some standard. Your sugar daddy is so rich, at least dress properly. Look at us, see how stylish we are. Very bad, he has lost his mind."
