After weeks of specification and snapshot leaks, Google on Thursday finally unveiled the much anticipated Android phone of the year, Nexus 5 online.

Google Nexus 5 sports 4.95-inch full HD (1920x1080p) IPS display with pixel density of 445 ppi (pixels per inch) and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 shield.

As expected, the new phone runs on the new Android v4.4 KitKat OS. It comes with a slew of enhanced features such as smarter caller ID, more organised message grouping, low-power audio play playback (about 60 hours), quick access to settings, colourful Emoji characters on keyboard, Voice search (like seen in Moto X), Quickoffice word document app, Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) and many more.

Under-the-hood, Nexus 5 packs 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor, 450MHz Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM and comes in two storage capacities 16GB and 32GB. Like its predecessor, it too does not support microSD card slot.

The Nexus 4 successor also sees a bump in camera specifications, Nexus 5 flaunts an improved 8.0-megapixel camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The main camera boasts OIS (Optical Image Stabilizations), HDR+ (High Dynamic Range), and has the ability to take good quality picture under low-light conditions.

Here is an important annoucement for Indian Nexus 5 fans ; Google has confirmed that the phone would set foot in India soon unlike its successor, which debuted almost seven months after its global unveiling. Google Play Store (India) has already released the price details - 16 GB model will costs ₹28,999 and 32GB has a price-tag of ₹32,999.

Nexus 5 is currently available at Google Play in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea with a starting price of $349 (₹21,625). And it will also be made available soon at the following retailers: Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack.

Thats not all; Google has also announced that the new KitKat OS will be released to all Nexus devices (Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10) as well as Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions in coming weeks.
