In what is suspected to be an attempt to rob the first consignment of Samsung's flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for Indian market, a gang of robbers hijacked a truck full of Samsung electronic goods worth ₹25 crore on Wednesday night, according to reports.
The gang, who were in a car, allegedly stopped the truck carrying Samsung goods near southeast Delhi's Kalindi Kunj just after midnight on Wednesday, beat up the driver and his helper, and remove the GPS tracker before driving it off, a police officer told Press Trust of India (PTI) according a report by Indian Express.
The report went on to say that four people have been arrested in connection with the theft but the Delhi police are yet to solve the case. A Samsung spokesperson told the news agency that the company "deeply appreciates the efforts of the police and government in this matter".
Interestingly, the gang of robbers was reportedly expecting the truck to carry the recently launched Galaxy S6 but it didn't carry the phones, said the report citing sources. The truck coming from Indira Gandhi International Airport was bound for Noida in Uttar Pradesh when the incident happened.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were unveiled at the MWC event in March and officially launched in New Delhi on 23 March. Its pre-orders have been opened and are scheduled to hit Indian stores on 10 April.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come with same features except for batter and design with the latter sporting curved screen on both right and left sides with 2600 mAh battery while the former has 2550 mAh battery.
Both the models of Galaxy S6 sport a 5.1-inch super AMOLED QHD display with 2560x1440 resolution (557 ppi pixels per inch), and screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The device has features like Exynos 7420 processor, Android 5.0 Lollipop, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal memory and LPDDR 3 3GB RAM, and a 16MP main camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) and 5.0MP front snapper.
The Galaxy S6 32GB model is priced at ₹49,900, 64GB:₹55,900, and 128GB:₹61,900, while the Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB comes with price tag of ₹58,900, 64GB: ₹64,900, and 128GB: ₹70,900.
