The first look of actor Dhanush's most-anticipated Tamil movie, "Mariyaan" has been released.

A 20-second teaser of the movie was also unveiled along with the first look. "Mariyaan" directed by BharatBala is expected to be released in the first half of this year, suggesting that the film might have a May or June release.

Malayalam actress Parvathy Menon plays the female lead and Oscar winner A.R. Rahman scores music for the film, which has been shot in fishing villages of Kanyakumari as well as in Africa.

A press statement was released along with the poster that gives the glimpse of the movie's storyline. "A young man is faced with adversity. Life deals him immense challenges, and forces him to struggle to thrive. But he does, nevertheless, fighting to survive by thriving on the sheer undying spirit of the human will to survive. Along his thrilling journey is a tryst with adventure, a smattering of drama and a gritty tale that shows the power of love in extreme circumstances. And that is the story of Mariyaan."


National award-winner Dhanush achieved popularity all over India through his smashing hit song "Why this kolaveri Di," which became a youth anthem. The actor is currently busy with his debut film in Bollywood titled "Raanjhnaa" co-starring Sonam Kapoor. Directed by "Tanu Weds Manu" fame Anand Rai, the film is a love story set in the backdrop of a small town of Varanasi.

"Raanjhnaa's" first look was released on the eve of Holi.

The first look of Mirchi Shiva's "Vanakkam Chennai" was also unveiled on Friday (29 March). The movie is a debut venture of Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, wife of Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Shiva, who has starred in popular movies like "Chennai 28" and "Thamizhpadam", is back with "Vanakkam Chennai." This time, the actor joins hands with lead comedian Santhanam. Considering the movie cast, "Vanakkam Chennai" is touted to be a fun-filled, romantic-comedy entertainer.

Priya Anand of "English Vinglish" fame plays the female lead. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
