Late filmmaker Prakash Mehra's son Amit Mehra passed away on Saturday morning, following a cardiac arrest.

"He was at his residence when his family found him unconscious and took him to the hospital, where the doctors declared that due to a sudden cardiac arrest, he was no more," a source said, IANS reports.

Amit, who was in the late 30's, will be cremated in an electric crematorium in Oshiwara, Mumbai, on Saturday evening.

Amit was in the news during the release of the remake of his father's film, "Zanjeer", in 2013. At that time, writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar revealed that they only have South Indian remake rights of the 1973 film, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles.

Amit has two brothers, Sumeet and Puneet.
