Fake news on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal being accused of raping a girl long back in 1987 has been doing the rounds on social media.

One image of a paper cutting from the Telegraph has gone viral on Twitter that holds a report saying that an IIT Kharagpur student named Arvind Kejriwal was accused of raping a local girl.

The concerned report dated June 8, 1987, stated that a 19-year-old IIT Kharagpur student, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by police on rape charges. While Kejriwal had been a student of IIT Kharagpur, his current age of 48 years matches with the age mentioned in the report in 1987.

"Police said that the student, 19 years old boy named Arvind Kejriwal had gone out with friends on Friday night for a party but didn't return to the hostel. All his friends had come back by wee hours of Saturday but Arvind returned only on Sunday night. Meanwhile, a case was registered in Gopalnagar police station by a girl who accused a student of raping her. She produced the identity card of the accused, which was of Arvind Kejriwal and that is how police reached IIT campus to arrest the accused," the report claimed.

International Business Times, India contacted the Telegraph and it turned out to be a fake news report, designed by some computerised tool.

"This is completely fake. There are many such tools by which anyone can create a news feed and put on the internet," a highly reliable source from the concerned news organisation confirmed to IBT.

The concerned fake report also quoted the hostel warden, confirming the news to the Times of India. IBT tried to contact The Times of India but there was no one available for a comment.

Many people on Twitter have been sharing the fake news report on Twitter, believing it to be true.

This fake report appears to be a work of someone from the anti-Kejriwal brigade.

In the current age of digital media and hi-tech computerised tools, commoners should not believe everything that they come across on internet.
