Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed Jack Wilshere to win a spot in Englands Euro 2016 squad despite the midfielder not playing a single game this season through injury.

I believe that its very important for his confidence that he can go to the Euros and he can play. For England as well its important that they have a player of his quality available, said Wenger at a press conference.

Wilshere, who has 28 England caps but has endured a stop-start career punctuated by a number of injury problems, has been out since suffering a leg fracture in the close season. Wenger, however, said it would not be a gamble for England manager Roy Hodgson to include him in his squad for the European championships in June and July.

When youre a national team coach you wonder, you can take a gamble, should you consider it a gamble on one [player], certainly not on five. So you consider the whole situation, on one player you can certainly take a chance...why not, you know? said Wenger.
