The Yash Raj Films production house, actor Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan have hit the pot of gold with their latest offering "Ek Tha Tiger", which registered a historic box-office record after racking up $1 billion (approx ₹55.74) in just five day after its release.

Besides becoming the fastest movie in Bollywood to collect $1 billion, Ek Tha Tiger has also shattered previous records by a mammoth margin. The film surpassed Salman's previous box office five-day collections of "Dabangg" & "Bodyguard".

After racking up a whopping ₹320 million on its opening day on Wednesday, "Ek Tha Tiger" recorded a dip in collections in the following days. On Thursday the film collected ₹145 million and continued the similar downward trend on Friday with ₹128 million at the box office window.

However, the film's bearish trend ended on Saturday as it garnered ₹170 million and continued the bullish pace on Sunday with about ₹230.6 million in its kitty at the end of the day, taking its box-office toll to over $1 billion, which is quite a big achievement for a Bollywood film.

"Ek Tha Tiger" is going strong at the overseas markets as well. According to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has collected a total ₹25.5 million in UK, ₹46.3 million in US, ₹16.9 million in Australia, and ₹4.59 million in New Zealand.

The overseas total collection of the film will be much bigger as the updates on the box office statistics till Saturday are only from reported screens.

The film campaign at the box office is likely to shoot up in the coming days, given that the Eid festival has begun. Adarsh predicts a spectacular business between Monday and Wednesday.

"#EkThaTiger had a rocking Sun. In CI circuit, for instance, is set to beat entire run dist share of #Dabangg & #Bodyguard in just 9 days," Adarsh wrote on his twitter wall.

"Ek Tha Tiger" directed by Kabir Khan was released on Aug 15. Besides Salman Khan, the film also features Katrina Kaif, Girish Karnad, Ranvir Shorey in lead roles. .
