E'dena Hines, the granddaughter of veteran actor Morgan Freeman, was stabbed to death in the Harlem section of New York around 3 am (EST) on Sunday, 16 August. A 30-year-old man has reportedly been arrested in connection to the murder.

Reuters has quoted police spokesman George Tsourovaka as saying that a 911 call was made in the wee hours of Sunday. Hines, 33, was stabbed in the torso multiple times and she was lying on the West 162nd Street in New York, where she lived. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The arrested person's name and relationship with Hines has been kept under wraps due to the nature of the investigation. The details that have been made public about the man under investigation are his age and that he has also been taken to a hospital.

Hines was an actor, writer and acting instructor in New York and her grandfather Freeman has acknowledged the support of his fans and friends via FaceBook. "I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines," Freeman said in a post on his Facebook page. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
