The name Eagles of Death Metal was back in lights above a Paris concert hall on 16 February, for the first time since one of their concerts was targeted by Islamist gunmen in November. The band headlined their first full gig in Paris after 90 people were killed during their show at the Bataclan concert hall on 13 November, in coordinated attacks on the French capital.
Security was tight at the event, and armed police were already on guard hours before the show. Survivors of the attack were given free tickets to the concert, and psychologists were scheduled to be on site to provide emotional support to any traumatised fans.
The Bataclan was the site of the deadliest in a series of attacks on the French capital, which also targeted cafes, restaurants and a sports stadium, and killed 130 people. Since the attacks, support has flooded the city from all corners of the world, with makeshift memorials cropping up at each crime scene where people have left messages of support, drawings, flowers and candles.
The terror attacks came 11 months after Islamist militants killed 17 people in Paris, most of them at the offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper and at a kosher supermarket. In December, Eagles of Death Metal appeared on stage at a U2 concert in Paris in their first return to the city after the attacks.
