On the 86th birth anniversary (24 April) of late Dr Rajkumar, Ram Gopal Varma has formally announced his entry into the Kannada film industry by releasing the first look of his forthcoming movie "Killing Veerappan", which stars Shivaraj Kumar.
The maverick filmmaker took to Twitter to release the first look of "Killing Veerappan". Along with the photo, he posted, "The first look of my most ambitious film. Veerappan was the most dreaded killer ever who killed around 400 people and many of them were police officers."
Ram Gopal Varma further posted, "The intelligence operation behind the hunting of Veerappan has far more thrilling drama than "Zero Dark Thirty". Never did I hear more blood curdling details of police covert operations than in the Operation of "Killing Veerappan"."
He further added, "It took 10 years to kill Osama Bin Laden and it took 25 years to kill Veerappan. "Killing Veerappan" is going to be with same authenticity of Phoolan Devi film "Bandit Queen" targeting all audiences. Phoolan Devi is not even a cheap pick pocket compared to Veerappan."
It may be surprising to see a movie on forest brigand Veerappan as his semi-biopic, titled "Attahasa", was made by AMR Ramesh in 2013. The movie starred Arjun Sarja and Kishore in key roles. It was simultaneously made in Tamil as well as Kannada. It had done well at the Sandalwood box office.
However, "Killing Veerappan" is being made in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Other details about the forthcoming movie have been kept under wraps.
