The 88th birth anniversary of Sandalwood's matinee idol Dr Rajkumar is being celebrated by his fans across Karnataka on Monday, April 24. Like every year, people are remembering him for his contribution to the Kannada film industry and its culture on this special day.

Thousands of fans are thronging to his memorial at Sri Kanteerava Studio in Bengaluru and paying their respect to their icon. As usual, distribution of food in his name and eye-donation camps are being carried out by his fans in the Garden City.

Dr Rajkumar started his acting career in Gubbi Veeranna's Gubbi Drama Company at the age of eight. He turned hero with Bedara Kannappa in 1954.

Some of his popular works are Satya Harishchandra, Kasturi Nivasa, Bangaarada Manushya, Gandhada Gudi, Eradu Kanasu, Daari Tappida Maga, Sannadhi Appanna, Babruvahana and Shravana Banthu.
