Julian Fellows' period drama "Downton Abbey" will bid goodbye to television once and for all when it airs the final episode of Season 6. Admittedly, the Christmas Special episode is one that will neatly tie up the loose ends in the series and present it's fans an ending that pays tribute to each of the characters. While most fans hope to see a happy ending for the upstairs and downstairs residents of Downton, the end may be a little different.

The promo for the Christmas Special hints at a staff member's departure from the English countryside estate. Throughout Season 6, under-butler Thomas (Rob James-Collier) has struggled to find his footing in the household, and it appears he will bid adieu to his favourite playmate, Master George.

In the promo he says: "I arrived as a boy. I leave as a man."

Furthermore, the last episode of the ITV series will focus on Lady Mary's (Michelle Dockery) married life. The heiress of Downton Abbey may have to deal with troubles in her marriage. The synopsis indicates her husband Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) will find it difficult to settle in. To be sure, we did not expect him to get used to a quiet life in the country.

Lastly, we won't be surprised if the unlucky Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) gets her happy ending. The Season 6 finale depicted that she and her beau Bertie Pelham are still in love with each other, and may just mend old wounds.

The Christmas Special episode of "Downton Abbey" Season 6 airs on Christmas Day at 8:45 pm on ITV.
