Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday asked her party lawmakers to not raise slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi while protesting against corruption, including the alleged DDCA scam, during the winter session of Parliament.
In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury went to the Well of the House to protest against the corruption under the NDA government. He dragged the prime minister's name in the protest and started to raise slogans against him until he was interrupted by Sonia Gandhi.
The Congress chief told Chowdhury and other lawmakers that they may raise slogans against corruption, but not against the prime minister. The Congress Parliamentarians abided by Sonia's request and did not take Modi's name again, NDTV reported.
The Congress stalled the proceedings at Parliament even on the last day of the winter session. The opposition party had been disrupting the sessions over various issues, including the allegations against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in connection with the irregularities in the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).
They demanded Jaitley's resignation over the accusations of financial irregularities in the Delhi cricket board during his 13-year long tenure till 2013. The accusations were made by AAP government in Delhi.
Despite persistent protests by the Congress, Parliament passed a total of 13 bills this winter session.
