Legendary director K Balachander has been admitted to Kaveri hospital in Chennai on Monday afternoon, 15 December. However, he is responding well to the treatment and his condition is stable. 

The director has developed fever and cretain age-related ailments. A press release from the hospital has clarified that he is responding well to the treatment. As per the reports, his condition is stable and is being given all necessary treatments. Celebrities including actor Rajinikanth have visited him at the hospital.

Later, the Tamil superstar requested people not to spread rumours about his health and expressed his confidence that K Balachander would recover soon. 

He has not been keeping well ever since his son Kailasam's death a few months ago, say reports.

In his 45-year-career, the film-maker has worked in more than 100 films, of which he directed 80. He is also remembered as a man, who shaped the careers of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

Language has never been a barrier for Balachander as he made films not only in Tamil, but also in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi film industries. "Thillu Mullu", "Maro Charitra", "Moondru Mudichu", "Duet", "Aval Oru Thodarkadhai", "Apoorva Raagangal", "Avargal", "Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu", "Achamillai Achamillai" and "Sindhu Bhairavi" are some of his popular movies.

Balachander has directed popular actors like Nagesh, Major Sundarrajan, Gemini Ganesan, Saroja Devi, Sowkar Janaki, Sivaji Ganesan, Lakshmi, Sivakumar, Rajesh Khanna, Sujatha, Jayaprada, Sripriya, Saritha, Sridevi, Chiranjeevi, Mammootty besides Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

In his long and succesful career, the 84-year-old film-maker has bagged nine National Film Awards and multiple Filmfare Awards. He is also the recipient of the Padma Shri Award, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 1987, and has also won the ANR National Award and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema.
