Justin Bieber got two tattoos inked on his body while travelling from Panama to Canada last month, and this might have set some sort of a record as the inking took place at 40,000 feet above the ground.
The tattoos were done by artist Bang Bang, born Keith McCurdy, just a few days after Bieber was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. Bieber opted for two religion-themed symbols – a cross on his chest and the word "Forgive" on the right hand side of his stomach -- and Bang Bang explained that Bieber's tattoo was a tribute to Jesus.
"Forgiveness is powerful, forgive as Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins," Bieber explained in a message to Bang Bang about the meaning of the tattoo, according to reports.
Elaborating on working at 40,000 feet above the ground, Bang Bang explained that it was a difficult task as it wasn't a smooth ride. Turbulence made it difficult to ink, and Bang Bang likened it to doing a tattoo while driving over rocks.
"It was really difficult. The plane was shaking, so it's like trying to do a tattoo while you're driving over rocks ... and so I have to compensate and be so, so accurate," he told the New York Daily News.
"I've gotta admit that my adrenaline was through the roof. I didn't anticipate it would be so difficult."
"This was the most difficult tattoo I've ever done for sure," the tattoo artist added.
Bang Bang also said that he will look into the possibility of the duo making it to the Guinness Book of World Records.
"I'm trying to see if we broke a record because we filmed it and documented it, it would be a cool record to have broken, the highest altitude tattoo."
Bieber, who is currently awaiting trial for allegedly driving under the influence and driving without a valid license among other charges, has a number of tattoos adorning his body.
He got his first tattoo, picture of a seagull, shortly after his 16th birthday, and since then he has gone under the needlepoint over 20 times.
