Surat, Sept 27 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu devotees, especially women, performed the traditional dance (Garba) in honour of Mother Goddess Durga during the festival of nine nights, Navratri, in Surat city of Gujarat. Women decked in traditional attire have played the ancient Garba in Surat city for the past hundreds of years holding lit earthen pots on the head. This is considered an auspicious old tradition, with the lit earthen pot symbolising a fertile womb. Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm and people drench into the music of Garba for nine-long-days, representing the nine manifestations of the divine mother.
