PV Sindhu continued her dominance in the ongoing Denmark Open as she reached the final of the competition after defeating Carolina Marin in the semifinals on Saturday. The Indian shuttler won the match in three sets with the score reading 21-15, 18-21, 21-17.
Sindhu has defeated a number of big players in the past, but this has to rank as one of her biggest victories, as Marin is the current world champion and the Spaniard was one of the favourites as well to clinch the title.
The Indian shuttler had to toil hard for the win as Marin, who had lost the first set, came back strongly in the second. Marin continued her momentum into the deciding set, and the Spaniard was inching closer to victory, but Sindhu showed some great character to claw back into the game brilliantly, winning seven of the last eight points to oust the world champion.
This victory was made possible by Sindhu's great performance from the back court along with some strong net play. It was a pleasant sight for Indian viewers to see Sindhu having a good day at the net, where Marin, usually, excels.
Sindhu's triumph over Marin in the semifinals only strengthens the fact that the Indian is in prime form. Sindhu defeated top shuttlers such as Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying and China's Wang Yihan in the second round and quarterfinals respectively.
With it Sindhu has booked a spot in her first Superseries final, where she will face China's Li Xuerui on Sunday.
