Protestors have poured out into the streets of Delhi again, and this time the cause is the horrific crime against a five-year old girl who was mercilessly tormented, raped and left to die.

Since the incident came to light on 17 April, demonstrators have staged mass protests, a grim reminder of the December gang rape protests.

The inhuman torture, assault, confinement of a child of merely five years of age has evoked violent and emotional reactions from the masses.

Questions about the credibility of government, of Delhi police and the security of women and children in India are once again raised.

While many protestors were seen trying to break police barricades near the Delhi police headquarters, those from the opposition launched their demonstration in front of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's residence.

Peace rallies and candle lit marches were witnessed in various parts, much like the December incident. Despite government imposing strong measures against the rise of such crimes and stringent laws against the offenders, the social condition of the country has remained unchanged.
