Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Surender Singh 'Commando', who was arrested by the Delhi Police in a case of physical assault, was granted bail by Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha at Patiala House Court on Saturday, as per reports.

Surender Singh, who represents the Delhi Cantonment constituency, was arrested in a case of physical assault and threat to some New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) employees. He is the third lawmaker of the party to be arrested since it came to power in Delhi.

Singh and his driver had allegedly manhandled NDMC employee Mukesh Kumar, who was conducting a routine check of encroachment near Race Course Road on 4 August. Kumar had reportedly suffered injuries to his eyes and face.

Earlier, a Delhi court had denied Singh bail plea, in which he claimed that a false case was lodged against him.

A case was also registered at the Tughlaq Road police station against the former NSG Commando for allegedly making casteist remarks against an NDMC sanitary inspector, Ram Jeevan Meena, who belongs to a schedule caste.

In July, the Delhi police had arrested AAP MLA Manoj Kumar in an alleged land grab case and a month before that the then Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar was arrested on charge of forging his graduation and law degrees.

Though on both the occasions the AAP strongly contested the police action, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had consequently removed Tomar as the minister apparently after prima facie evidence against him.
