The 23-year-old paramedical student, who fell victim to a heinous crime on Dec 16, was to get married in February.

The girl's neighbours told AFP that the she was set to tie knot with her male friend who accompanied her when the gruesome rape took place. He was also assaulted by the accused but survived with serious injuries after being thrown off the bus along with her.

A neighbour, identified as Meena Rai, who attended the last rites of the girl said that all wedding preparations were done and a wedding party was planned in Delhi. "She was supposed to get married in February to the same guy who was attacked on the bus with her," AFP quoted her as saying.

"We know that she was going to get married in February," another neighbour said.

Meena Rai said that she accompanied the girl, whose name is withheld, during her shopping trips for her wedding..

The report of the girl's wedding comes a day when she breathed her last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, where she was taken to on Wednesday for treatment. Her body was brought back to India on Sunday and later cremated.

The girl was gang-raped by six in a moving bus while she was on her way back home after watching a movie with her male friend. The accused six coaxed the duo to board bus and started abusing the girl for which her friend protested. They were stripped off their clothes and thrown off the bus. The accused are expected to face trail early January.
