Two separate cases involving serious crimes against minor girls have come to light in Delhi, with a Class 6 student allegedly sexually assaulted inside a shop in Sadar Bazaar and a teenage girl allegedly gang-raped and murdered in North Delhi.
In the Sadar Bazaar case, police said the sixth-grade student had stepped out of her home at around 11 p.m. on September 16 to purchase stationery when she was allegedly lured into a nearby shop by a shopkeeper.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly restrained the girl and tied her hands and legs before sexually assaulting her.
Police received a PCR call regarding the incident that night. Teams from Sadar Bazaar Police Station, along with ACPs of Sadar Bazaar and the Women Police Station, reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Based on the girl's complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, rape and wrongful confinement.
Police identified the accused as 56-year-old Maqsood, who was arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody following due legal procedure. Further investigation is underway.
The case comes days after a separate and more serious incident involving a teenage girl in North Delhi's Swaroop Nagar area.
According to police, the teenager was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by four people, including three juveniles. Her severely decomposed body was found near a field along Kushak Road on September 13.

Police said the victim was acquainted with the accused and had been travelling with them in a tempo. During the journey, the group allegedly consumed alcohol before the girl was sexually assaulted. She was subsequently stabbed to death and her body was allegedly abandoned in an open area.
Due to the condition of the body, police were initially unable to determine the victim's gender. Parts of the body were later reportedly found to have been attacked by stray dogs.
Following an investigation, police arrested four people, including three juveniles, in connection with the case.
The two incidents are separate cases, but their emergence within days of each other has drawn attention to crimes involving minors in the national Capital. Investigations into both cases are continuing.
