A 20-year-old girl was stabbed to death by a jilted lover at New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi on Monday. The accused, a driver, has been arrested.

The incident took place at 5 pm when the girl, identified as Neha Yadav, a call centre employee, was travelling with her team lead Gaurav Karodia in his car.  The attacker, Devender, intercepted the vehicle with his motorcycle near Dallupura timber market T-point.

Deputy Commissioner of police (east) said, "Around 5:10pm, their car was waylaid by one Devender, a driver who claims he had known Neha for over a year. He stopped his motorcycle abruptly in front of their car and picked a fight with Gaurav," reported Hindustan Times.

Devender then picked up a quarrel with Gaurav and smashed the car window with his helmet. After Gaurav stepped out of the vehicle to seek help from a policeman standing by Devender stabbed his right cheek and then turned the knife on Neha when she tried to intervene.

"In the process, Devender stabbed him in the cheek but he managed to get away even as Neha jumped to stop the accused. But Devender was able to push her back before stabbing her in the stomach several times," another officer investigating the case said.

The police found Neha was found lying in a pool of blood and immediately arrested Devender. She was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital along with Gaurav where the doctors declared her dead. Gaurav was unable to give a statement to the police due to his injuries.

The police said that Devender sought revenge on the girl after she left him a month ago.
