New Delhi/ Dehradun, June 06 (ANI): A Delhi court convicted 18 policemen on Friday for killing a young student in Uttarakhand in a fake encounter. The policemen had shot dead 22-year-old Ranbir in Dehradun in 2009, alleging that he was involved in an extortion racket. The 17 accused were found guilty of murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy while one policeman has been found guilty of destruction of evidence. Victim Ranbir's father, Ravinder Pal, sought capital punishment for some of the convicts. However, Director General of Uttarakhand Police (DGP), BS Sidhu, hinted that his department might move the higher court against the verdict. The trial of the case was transferred from Dehradun to Delhi after Ranbir's family's petition.
