Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has drawn attention on social media after a video purportedly showing her chanting "Modi Modi" during a pooja ceremony circulated online amid ongoing protests and heightened security across the national capital.

The video, shared on social media on October 12, appears to show Gupta participating in religious rituals while slogans praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi are heard. The footage has attracted online reactions, with users discussing the timing of the ceremony against the backdrop of political unrest in Delhi. However, the precise location and context of the footage could not be independently established from the available reports.

Delhi on high alert amid protests

The development comes amid heightened tensions in Delhi following protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and Opposition groups over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls. Demonstrators have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process could unfairly affect voters.

Delhi Police detained thousands of people during security operations ahead of the planned demonstrations on October 10, while restrictions were imposed on public gatherings and transport in parts of the capital.

The protests continued over the following days, culminating in an INDIA bloc march towards the Supreme Court on October 12. Opposition leaders subsequently submitted a joint petition challenging the SIR process.

Amid the unrest, Gupta criticised the demonstrations and accused Opposition groups of disrupting public order. She also thanked Delhi residents for their patience and praised police and security personnel for managing the situation.

Meanwhile, a separate report by NDTV India said Gupta visited Jhandewalan Temple on October 11 during the first day of Sharad Navratri and offered prayers for peace, prosperity and good health.
