Deepika Padukone seems to have got an opportunity from Kollywood to forget her disastrous Tamil debut "Kochadaiiyaan". The Bollywood diva has reportedly been approached by Shankar for his next film "Endhiran 2".

There is a lot of buzz in the industry that Shankar met Deepika Padukone recently and offered her to play the female lead in "Endhiran 2". But it is not clear whether she has given a nod to the film, given the other commitments that she has in her hands.

Deepika Padukone is currently busy with "Tamasha" starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Imtiaz Ali. She is also shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" starring Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.

While the Bengaluru girl has been approached by many filmmakers, she us yet to sign the dotted line.

It may be recalled that Deepika Padukone made a grand debut in "Kochadaiiyaan", starring Rajinikanth and directed by his daughter Soundarya Ashwin. But the film turned out to be a dud at the box office, with the actress becoming the butt of all jokes for her below-average performance in the flick.

On the other hand, Shankar has finalised the shooting locations and is now concentrating on choosing the right cast. He wants to cast a Bollywood actor for the role of the antagonist, as "Endhiran" will be made for the Hindi audience too.

In the first instalment, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the female lead role with Danny Denzongpa playing the villain's character.

The multilingual film is likely to hit floors next year. Rajinikanth needs to complete his forthcoming movie "Kabali" directed by Pa Ranjith before starting "Endhiran 2".

The latest film is a sequel to "Endhiran". The first instalment, released in 2010, was the biggest South Indian hit at the box office till SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" broke its record recently. It was produced by Sun Pictures. The latest project is reportedly bankrolled by Lyca Productions, which had earlier made Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Kaththi".
