An effort to snap that perfect 'selfie' turned out to be fatal for an engineering student from Tamil Nadu.

The victim, Prakash, along with six of his hostel mates, had visited the scenic Kolli Hills in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.

After bathing in the falls, the youngsters took out their smart phones and began to click their selfies. Prakash wanted to take one on a small rock projecting out of the hillside. As soon as he stepped on the rock, it cracked and fell down, reports said.

The student fell down about 60 feet, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot, local police said.

In a similar incident earlier this month, a 60-year old Japenese tourist succumbed to head injuries after he fell from the Taj Mahal's royal gate. The tourist reportedly slipped on the stairs while taking a selfie. Agra tourist police officer Sushant Gaur told BBC Hindi that the Japanese tourist was with three other people when the incident occurred. One of his colleagues fractured his leg, after both fell from the staircase of the monument.
