Aamir Khan has put in blood, sweat and a few years of his life into Dangal. Quite obviously, the man will be anxious about his film's performance at the box office and also how the audience receives it.

The superstar has been keeping a close tab on the box office figures of every film, SpotboyE reported. At his Diwali bash, he had invited over a few trade analysts and entertainment journalists, wanting to know what kind of competition Dangal is looking at, in terms of box office records. He specifically enquired about Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Even though, the romantic-drama film has done exceptionally well in the domestic and international circuits, it will never beat Salman Khan's Sultan, which went on to create records that no one had even heard of before.

Aamir, however, appeared certain that his next release has an added advantage over Sultan. "Well-researched acting" and "strong emotional core" are two aspects that Dangal confidently prides itself on. Even then the actor seemed worried because if a well-made project like Fan can fail to work at the ticket window, anything can happen.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal is a special film for Aamir as it marks the actor's return to the big screen after a gap of two years. He was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani's PK alongside Anushka Sharma.

Dangal is essentially the story of wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, who releases his Olympics dreams through his two daughters — Geeta and Babita — essayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, respectively. Television actress Sakshi Tanwar has played Aamir's onscreen wife in the film.

Dangal is scheduled to be released on December 23. The sports-drama film is all set to enjoy a solo run at the box office for at least three weeks, until OK Jaanu arrives at the theatres on January 13.
