Wrestler Vinesh Phogat made history after she clinched gold in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling on the second day of the ongoing Asian Games on August 20.

Phogat became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in wrestling at the Asian Games. She got the better of Japan's Yuki Irie 6-2 in the final. It was a stellar display by the 23-year-old right through the event as she cruised to the finals without breaking a sweat.

Her semi-final bout against Uzbekistan's Dauletbike Yakhshimuratova lasted for just over a minute when she romped to a win by technical superiority.

She had earlier registered emphatic wins against South Korea's Kim Hyungjoo 11-0 victory in the quarterfinals as she also swept past China's Sun Yanan by technical superiority 8-2 in the 1/8 finals.

Phogat, who is already a two-time Commonwealth gold medallist, had to settle for a bronze medal four years ago at Incheon, but this was one emphatic performance.

Her performance garnered plaudits from all over the country and as many users took to Twitter to congratulate on her remarkable feat. Her victory has also lead to several comparisons with movie Dangal, which was made based on the life of Vinesh's cousins, Babita and Geeta Phogat.
