A 15-year-old girl was allegedly sedated and raped by the driver of her school bus in Bikaner, a district in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan. The accused was arrested on Monday.

The incident took place on 25 April when the girl, a student of grade 10, was on her way to school. The accused, who was known to the victim, offered her a ride to school and she accepted. He then gave her a drink laced with sedatives and raped her as she fell unconscious.

The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, 35, left the girl near Khajuwala hospital the next day and fled the scene. The victim informed her family about the incident after which a First Investigation Report (FIR) against the driver was filed at Khajuwala police station on Monday night.

"The girl was on her way to the school on April 26 when the driver met and offered her lift to the school. The driver was alone in the bus. He gave a sedative-laced drink to the girl and raped her," CO Babu Lal told Press Trust of India reported.

On the basis of the complaint, police arrested Rajesh Kumar on Monday.

In another recent incident, a hostel warden of an institute for the visually challenged was arrested in Jaipur city for forcing a girl into having sexual relations with him.

After the management of the institute was alerted, a complaint was filed against the warden Prashant Vyas. He was later arrested.

The reports of sexual assaults in the Rajasthan state comes at a time when the nation is outraged over the brutal gang rape of a five-year-old girl in the national capital, Delhi, earlier in April.
