Fenny Bentley, a village in Derbyshire, hosted the World Toe Wrestling Championship on Saturday 12 June.
Toe wrestling began here in 1976 when a group of walkers at the Ye Olde Royal Oak Inn, in Wetton (a village about 12 miles away) set about inventing a game that only the British could win.
Toe wrestling is a bit like arm wrestling but with feet. There are two people in each bout, which goes to the best of three. The contestants start by locking right toes, then left, then right again.
There is both a mens and a womens championship, as mixed matches are not allowed.
Toe inspections take place prior to the initial heats. Contestants must have their toes thoroughly examined and passed by a qualified nurse before being given clearance to compete.
As with many more well-known sporting occasions, the inclement weather meant that the event was played inside the pub.
As the competition got under way, those who failed to toe the line were quickly despatched, leaving the more serious contenders in the latter rounds.
In the mens final, incumbent world champion Alan Nasty Nash beat off stiff competition from Michael Grimbo Grimmett to claim his 12th world title. They last met in a final over a decade over, with Nasty Nash also winning on that occasion.
A lady who wished to be known only as Tracy Tippy Toe took home the womens title.
