Toyota Motor Corporation revealed many details, except the pricing, about the new Innova last week. The latest report states that PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Toyota's Indonesian subsidiary, has confirmed that the new Innova will be launched on 23 November in Jakarta. This will also mark the global unveiling and Toyota has already sent out invitations for the launch.
The new Innova has undergone extensive changes on the exterior, interior and powertrains for 2016. The new car will be available with the new top-of-the-line Q variant followed by the V and G trims. In the latest avatar, the Innova features LED projector headlamp. The front fascia gets a big hexagonal grille with two thick chrome slats on the top that blend into the headlamps. The rear of the MPV gets newly designed tail lamps, while the changes on side are new quarter glass and alloy wheels. The new car measures 4,735mm in length, 1,830mm in width, 1,795mm in height with a wheelbase of 2750mm.
The interior is spruced up with new instrument panel, which is decorated with a blue-ish ambiance light. The new steering wheel is complete with buttons and the wooden panel is also part of a dashboard that is reserved for the V or Q variant. The new 8-inch touchscreen is equipped with web browser, HDMI, Bluetooth, smartphone integration and voice command. The new Innova also features Miracast, which connects the smartphone with the vehicle via Wifi signal.
The 2016 Toyota Innova is powered by the GD 2.4-litre diesel engine that develops 147bhp and 359Nm of torque, and is mated to a manual gearbox. The diesel engine, also available with automatic transmission for the first time, will have a slightly lesser torque of 342.2Nm, while power remains the same. The in-line four-cylinder 2000cc VVT-i petrol engine will develop 137bhp and 183Nm of torque, and will be available with manual and automatic transmissions.
All the variants of the new Innova is equipped with Anti lock brake system (ABS) with EBD, dual SRS airbag and knee airbag, while the Q variant boasts of side airbags and curtain shield airbag.
