A total of 23 individual athletes and 6 teams from the Indian contingent will be in action on day two of the Commonwealth Games including olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra who will be appearing in his last CWG.

The first day of the games saw team India forging ahead in the men, women and mixed doubles categories in table tennis and badminton.

The men's table tennis team defeated Vanuatu while the women's team breezed past Barbados with Shetty and Anthony Amalraj beating the Chinese pairing of Alan Lin and Shing to advance in the mixed doubles category.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa registered a win against team Ghana in the women's badminton draw whilst the men's doubles saw Akshay Dewalkar and Pranav Chopra get the better of Ugandan players Emmanuel Donkor and Abraham Ayittey to advance to round two.

P C Thulasi and Kidambi Srikanth teamed up for the mixed doubles event and thrashed Sam and Amasah to advance.

The women's hockey team beat team Canada 4-2 and next take on New Zealand on Sunday.

In the individual events, PV Sindhu and P Kashyap advanced by beating Stella Amasah and Daniel Sam respectively in badminton.

Anaka Alankamony, Harinder Pal Sandhu, Mahesh Mangaonkar (men's) Dipika Pallikal, Joshna Chinnappa (women's) advanced in squash.
