China has warned India regarding the higher levels of river Tsangpo, which could lead to a flood-like situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, stated Arunachal Pradesh MP Ninong Ering on Thursday.

The same river is called Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and the Brahmaputra in Assam. This situation has occurred after a gap of 150 years and it has created an unprecedented situation in China and hence it has shared the information with India, a senior official of the Union Water Resources Ministry told PTI.

As per the report of the Chinese government, Tsangpo received around 9,020 cumecs of water on Wednesday. However, it was 8,070 cusecs on August 14.

The information was given by Chinese authorities following the incessant rains in their country due to which Tsangpo was in spate. "We have taken the alert seriously and cautioned people," he was quoted by PTI as saying.

The MP further stated that people in East and Upper Siang districts were alerted about the situation. "My own village is in danger of getting flooded," he added.

According to Union Water Resources Ministry official said that after analysing the data shared by China it can be said that it may not be so alarming situation in India as compared to China. Moreover, China shared the data with India under the signed MoU between both countries.

Fear among people

The information has created fear among the people of the two Arunachal Pradesh districts and the government officials have cautioned people of Jarku, Paglek, Jarkong, banskota, Berung and Namsing areas to avoid fishing, swimming and other activities.

In addition, large-scale erosion was noticed on the left bank of river Siang in the past few days and around 15 houses were washed away in Seram-Ramku village, the official stated.

Further, the officials have said that this was the first time in 2018 that China shared the river data with India.
